6 Upcoming Kdramas You Should Be Watching – June 2017

May 21, 2017

Summer is quickly approaching, which for most of us this means more free time and more time to spend watching Korean dramas! June is filled with many great, new K-Drama releases and many shows staring popular idols and actors! It seems like it will be a great start to summer!

Also starting next month it seems as if Netflix will be showing more currently airing Korean dramas! Now you can watch your favorite dramas from the comfort of your TV!

Note – There are definitely more shows than what I’ve listed, but here are the shows you don’t want to miss!

Woman of Dignity

“Woman of Dignity” is the story of a woman who used to have a private maid hitting the ground when her father-in-law goes out and her husband betrays her. She climbs back up to find her life and she represents the lives of women these days as well as the social position of married women.

I think this is the show that most people are looking forward to. And for good reason! I love shows that address modern problems, and feature strong woman. Kim Hee Sun has shown us how strong she can be (Angry Mom) so I know she’ll do a great job in this role. Unfortunately there are still a lot of questions I have about this show. The only thing I know for sure is that the plot is about the hardships Kim Hee Sun’s character faces. I don’t know if its going to be a started-from-the-bottom-now-I’m-here kind of story or a revenge story. I don’t even know if there is romance . Guess we’ll find out once it airs  (●´ω`●)ゞ

Stranger (Secret Forest)

A brain surgery during childhood caused prosecutor Hwang Shi Mok to lack emotion, even though he is rational. Cold and lonely, he’s one of the only prosecutors not involved in corruption. He then meets Police Lieutenant Han Yeo Jin at a murder crime scene and they work together to eradicate corruption at the prosecutor’s office and solve a serial murder case.

I’m just going to say what everyone else is thinking. Jo Seung Woo better be on his A game  ( •̀ω•́ ). After watching Jang Hyuk’s excellent performance as an emotionless man in Beautiful Mind, I find hard to believe that someone else can be as good or better. He’d better do good though because these kind of shows depend heavily on the actors capabilities. The plot sounds great on paper but it depends on how good the cast is. I am excited to see Lee Joon Hyuk (if you haven’t watched Naked Fireman than you are missing out) and Bae Doo Na (God of Study)! They are great actors and if you have a chance you should watch some of their other works.

tvN is the company that produced Signal so I think its safe to say I have high expectations.

My Only Love Song

NAVER tv cast

Song Soo-Jung (Kong Seung-Yeon) is a top star and she is very arrogant. She classifies people by how much money they have. Suddenly, she goes back in time to the Joseon era and meets On Dal (Lee Jong-Hyun). He will do anything to make money, but in fact he is generous to the weak and poor.

Lee Jong Hyun~ (´ε` )♡. If you read my March K-pop Comeback post, then you know how much of a CNBlue fan-girl I am. Besides being great singers, I also think they’re all good actors. Jong Hyun only appeared for a few episodes, but I loved when he played Collin in Gentlemen’s Dignity! Him and Kim Woo Bin were such a funny pair. I’m not familiar with the main female lead, but since she’s also starring in the K-Drama Circle (which starts this week  ≧∇≦) I’ll get to see her soon. Naver produces good romances so I’m looking forward to it!

Wendesday 3:30 pm

“Wednesday 3:30 p.m.” tells the story of a woman who was dumped by her boyfriend and tries win to win back his heart by making him jealous. With her close male friend, she manipulates her social media to create a fake “lovestagram” (love + Instagram). The two characters are childhood friends, and a sweet romance will unfold as they begin to live together.

I have my reservations on this one (◕ 〜 ◕ ), but I’ll still try it out (and recommend others also try). If produced the right way this show could be a cute, funny modern love story. Produced the wrong way, and we’ll have a hot mess. I love Hongbin (such a pretty flower boy) but even his face can’t save a bad romance plot.  As long as the female lead isn’t an airhead we should be okay (stupid does not make you look cuter 益゚)

The Best Hit

The Best Hit will be a mix of family and rom-com genres and centers around an immature father and his mature son. In the ’90s, Dad was a top star when he was in his twenties and recalls his glorious youth as a time when he could do anything he set his mind to. Twenty years ago, Dad disappeared from the public eye, only to reappear two decades later as the neighborhood slacker. Meanwhile, the son’s life in his twenties is quite the opposite of Dad’s, full of frustration and worry, and the show will follow their father-son bromance in a cheerful story of growth and maturation.

It’s staring Yoon Shi Yoon, do I need to explain further? If you’ve seen Flower Boy Next Door, then you should now how great this man is at acting in rom-coms. Plus it also stars Lee Se Young! I loved her character in Laurel Street Tailors, so I’m very excited to see her again. The plot sounds hilarious so I can’t wait to see how it plays out ヾ(o✪‿✪o)シ! Combining the rom-com and family genres seems a little difficult to balance. Typically shows focus on the family side and less on the rom-com side. I’m just hoping this show doesn’t make a mess of the love line.

Jang Deuk Cheon is the chief of a crime squad. At home, he is a kind and friendly father to his daughter. He meets a human clone and gets involved in a shocking case. A battle takes place between human clones.

Originally I was planning to skip this show. Battle? Clones? I hate Sci-fi so this didn’t like a show I’d be interested in. But after thinking about it,  I realized it might actually turn out to be a great show! A suspense, thriller about a world filled with clones. People being replaced without others knowing, and the mysterious orgin of these clones. Plus its being produced by OCN, and if you watched Voice then you know how dark/intense they can get. The word battle sounds corny but I’m expecting some awesome edge-of-your-seat thrilling moments! ԾᴗԾ

And those are my recommendations! Hopefully all these shows turn out great (not huge failures) and that you’ll be watching a few. Let me know which shows you’re most excited about, or if you have any others that you would like to recommend!
